Stas needs our prayers

My heart is so heavy. So very, very heavy. Just a few hours ago, Stas poured a boiling pot of water off the stove and onto his face, shoulders and tummy. I have learned his burns are 2nd degree and he is staying in the hospital tonight.

His mommy is Gretchen and she loves my Alexander. Her husband is the one who to the now famous video of Alexander playing with the ball at the orphanage when they went to get Stas and bring him home.

Before I knew you

I never knew what I was missing

I never knew love could be so pure

I never knew rolling over would make me cry

Before I saw your face

I never realized the beauty I was missing

I never realized how precious motherhood truly is

I never realized how my heart would swell in my throat when you cry

I was a mother once before you

But I was missing something

I think back now and wonder what your brother did

And what I shorted myself on during his infant years

Before you, a doctor never said, “I’m sorry”

Before you, a stranger never said, “I’m sorry”

Before you, those I thought were friends never said, “I’m sorry”

Before you, I never felt sorry for all of them

Before you I never knew what I was missing

Before you I was not a bad person or a bad mommy but….

I am a better person for the time that has come since you came to me.

For my sweet Joseph, you have taught your mommy so very much and I love you all the more for it.

My Blessed Child
My child, my love.
You are my gift.
The one I never dreamed of.

So sweet and pure
With a smile to light the room
when the world seems a blur.

I could hold you tight
And never let go
but then again...

I think I won’t
for that just wouldn’t be right.

You are a teacher, a mover,a mind-changer
You will likely never know a stranger.

47 chromosomes have made you blessed.
To change the world,
on our shoulders the task now rests.

For a little while longer
I will hold you close and show you the way. Then I will set you free
and then smile and say,

“Now go change the world my blessed child.”
