Four years ago today, I was in Labor & Delivery hoping to have the twins. Only our doctor was not so ready for me to have them. During this precise hour she ordered yet ONE MORE round of Terbutaline to stop my labor, again, for the 6th or 7th time. I WAS NOT HAPPY. I had been laboring at home for nearly 2 days when I finally told Shawn we needed to go the hospital. Never in my wildest dreams did I think the doctor would try and stop labor again. I was exactly 35 weeks 6 days--twins are considered full term at 36 weeks. I was HOURS shy of 36 weeks gestation.
Turb was pushed in my side and we were sent home an hour later. My contractions stopped entirely for 45 minutes and then came back but they were extremely unpredictable.
Shawn and I drove home and over the next 12 hours my body TIRED to get back into a good laboring rhythm with my contractions. Just after 1 in the morning, Sunday, July 1st, 2007, Shawn and I were back at the hospital handing Jared off to my dad and Pam in the ER parking lot and heading back into the hospital.
I was tired, angry, grouchy and down right mean at this point in time for I had been laboring for 30 hours UNMEDICATED and I was not NOT going back home again.
My doctor, being the great (can you feel the sarcasm) doctor she was, would NOT admit because I told the nurse, "If you come back in this damn room with a needle there better be a shot of Stadol in it because I am NOT getting another shot of Terb". Well, the doctor decided I could stay and the nurses could watch me but I could have NOTHING. NO Stadol. NO Nubaine. NO Terb (since I had refused it) but she would NOT admit me until my body started to dilate more.
Nice. Real. Friggin. Nice.
I labored, in full labor, for the next 5 and half hours before she would admit me and allow me pain medication. I was dilated to 6 cm by that point. The anesthesiologist was called in for my epidural and he arrived within 30 minutes to administer the worst epidural EVER. My feet felt like they were the size of Texas and I could feel NOTHING. Doctor arrived 45 minutes after he administered the epidural--time now is 7:45 am July 1st.
Doctor ordered my pitocin at full drip immediately and said, "Don't worry, you won't feel it. Let's get this done."
Nice. Real. Friggin. Nice.
Joseph was born an hour later at 8:50 a.m. and Jackson 14 minutes later at 9:04 a.m. Both boys seemed to be doing great and Dr. was gone by 9:45 a.m. Long enough to deliver the placenta and stitch me. She never looked at the boys, but did say "Goodbye, I'll call and check on you tomorrow". She did call and said I could leave when we were ready to go on Tuesday.
So here is a trip down memory lane in pictures

Love the birth story! I guess these doctors are so used to "false alarms" they try to send us away. After laboring all day and getting ctx 2-3 minutes apart consistently for several hours, our nurse said, "You can go in, but they wont admit you." Well, on the way to going to triage my water broke and a very short 6 hours later Abbie was born. This was only after I literally, LITERALLY held her in for two hours because "they weren't ready" and the "doctor was busy". Seriously?! She was crawling out, and they were making me hold her in. LOL! It wasn't funny at the time. Anyway, the twins are so incredibly handsome and what lucky boys they are to have a momma like you!!! Can't wait for Alexander's "birthday" into your family.
I do not like your OB. Just sayin'.
Yay for Joseph and Jackson!!!! How much did they weigh at birth? Yes, I am nosy :-)
Love love love the one-day old pic where they are all bundled up and looking at each other.
Jackson is totally pulling Joseph's hair in that last photo! They are adorable. Happy almost birthday little men!
Sounds like you had a fun time! ;)
Love the story in pics!! They are both just adorable. Can't wait until they become triplets :)
I LOVE the 8 mos pic! Hilarious! So cute! Fun trip down memory lane. :)
Thanks for sharing your story.....what big beautiful babies!!!! INSANE dr!!!!!
Happy birthday, boys!! I'm sure momma thinks you worth every bit of it. But I think I would be scared if I were that doctor! LOL
They were the cutest babies! Love their eight months picture!
Christie, I didn't realize our twins are so close in age. Mine will turn four on Sept. 6th.
Awful labor story for you! You got some seriously cute babies out of it, though. :)
